Introduction
|
Last year a fifth grader at a nearby school lost 25 pounds in one month. She was diagnosed with Type II diabetes.
Diabetes is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke in adults. About 16 million Americans have diabetes. There is no cure. Many people are unaware that they have diabetes until they develop one of its complications. |

Diabetes is a life-changing disease, but people with diabetes can lead a normal, healthy life. By recognizing the symptoms, diabetics can receive treatment early. Because of heredity, family members need to be informed. Your information booklet should be shared with family members. |
